Bank of India Staff Union, Goa was founded on 23rd March, 1963. Unlike other states, Goa was under the rule of Portuguese and liberated in 1961. Soon after its liberalization, Bank of India was the first bank to open a branch in Goa. Subsequently, many banks were opened. Without any delay, then General Secretary of Federation of Bank of India Staff Unions Com VM Chitnis and legendry leader Com NS Purao organized BOI Comrades and formed BOI Staff Union Goa in 1963. Having been the oldest Bank Employees' Union in Goa, BOISU Goa unit played crusading and pioneering role in organizing other bank employees under trade union movement including co-operative bank employees. Eventually, BOISU Goa Unit played the vital role in the formation of State Federation of Goa in the name of Goa Bank Employees Federation.
