Ahmedabad is a place of pioneer in trade union movement in Bank of India where the seeds of Unity were sown in the days of unsecured jobs and dictatorial management. Gujarat and Ahmedabad had simple, sincere, righteous, fierce and strong stalwart leaders who showed commendable courage to raise their voice against the private management under heavy odds. They swam against the tyrannical forces of the employers, decided to fight unitedly and win their rights through Unity instead of remaining slaves at the mercy of bosses. The tiny band of furious and ferocious workers, triggered and sparked off a movement that gathered momentum. They blazed the trail for a treacherous and hazardous path at the peril off their jobs, domestic life and leisure. That trail has widened into all India organization of award staff in Bank of India and we now reap the harvest of their relentless sacrifice. The list of veteran fighters starts from Com V.M.Devi, Com Janardan Trivedi, Com Bhanukant Parikh, Com H.N.Desai, Com M.S.Bhavsar, Com H.M.Hathi, Com T.N.Jadawala and Com Madhukar Vadiya. Thus, our Unit came into existence on 8th April, 1949, under the leadership of Late ComV.M.Devi, as General Secretary, at our Ahmedabad Station Branch, which was the 2nd branch in Ahmedabad. The Unit has now grown to be one of the biggest and vibrant unit. It is our bounden duty to ensure that the vibrancy and legacy is carried over to the next generation with high morale and maintain the zeal and enthusiasm of dedicated trade unionism.
